Exploring the Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Marine Jobs in Europe

Adriana Ressurreição was hosted at The Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI) on a RethinkBlue Cost Action short-term scientific mission in October.

The STSM built upon a SWOT analysis initiated in December 2024 and subsequently refined into a policy-oriented framework during previous WG1 activities. The mission focused on complementing that analysis with additional insights into the barriers and enablers of sustainable marine employment across Europe.

A small team of WG1 members met in Stockholm for a five-day workshop to discuss the preliminary analysis, integrating new literature evidence, and co-designing the policy brief and the conceptual framework for a peer-reviewed research paper, directly contributing to RethinkBlue’s core objectives of coordinating research and providing evidence-based recommendations for European marine policy.
