Supply Chains of Octopus Fisheries Around the World: A RethinkBlue scientific mission

Prof Cristina Pita (Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal) visited the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil as part of a Rethink Blue short term scientific mission.

The mission entailed analysis of the data on the supply chains of octopus fisheries around the world, including putting together existent data, analysing the data, comparing across regions and structuring a paper. Meetings were held with Brazilian academics with expertise on octopus and their supply chain from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA). A workshop was also undertaken with stakeholders in the octopus supply chain (fishers, intermediaries) in Brazil to discuss the octopus supply chain and validate results.
