Ms Laila Hassan Hassanein visited Science and Research Centre, Koper, Slovenia, as part of a Rethink Blue short term scientific mission, earlier this year.
This scientific mission explored how comics and visual storytelling can support inclusive climate adaptation planning. The project focused on three coastal sites in Slovenia (Piran, Strunjan, and the Sečovlje Saltpans) and aimed to create educational visual materials representing different adaptation scenarios. Field visits were conducted to document the physical landscape and inform site-specific visuals. The project also included a participatory workshop in a local school, where visual drafts of the scenarios were presented to children aged 10–11.
The workshops served to engage younger generations in thinking critically and imaginatively about climate futures. The students provided drawings and reflections on how they envisioned future changes in their coastal communities, offering valuable input that will inform the final visual outcomes of the project.
