Research project: Seafarers’ experiences in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz after 28 February 2026

Are you a seafarer who has worked in the Gulf region or the Strait of Hormuz after 28 February 2026?

An international research team would like to hear about your experiences at sea and understand how the current instability affects seafarers.

The survey takes about 10 min and is completely anonymous. No personal data is requested, nor are the names of companies or vessels required.

Link to the survey: https://response.questback.com/nordlandsforskning/seafarerexperiences_gulfregion

Please share with fellow seafarers.

The aim of this research project is to understand how the current instability and disruption to shipping in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz affects seafarers, and to identify factors that may increase the resilience of crews operating in high-risk maritime environments in the future.

The research project is carried out by a team of researchers from RethinkBlue Working Group 1, consisting of Dr Birgit Pauksztat (Nordland Research Institute, Norway), Dr Ana Slišković (University of Zadar, Croatia), Dr Pedro Ferreira (University of Lisbon, Portugal),  Dr Gesa Praetorius (Swedish National Road and Transport Institute, VTI, Sweden) and Dr Jason Zuidema (ICMA).

The results will be presented at a webinar around the end of June / early July. The webinar will be open to all who are interested.

More information will be available on this website closer to the time.

If you have any questions about the project, please contact Dr Birgit Pauksztat (bpa@nforsk.no).
